I just bought a reconditioned dryer, installed the cord myself, and it has run fine for about 2 weeks. Today it suddenly sparked near cord, so I turned off the power, and took a look at the cord connection. I'm attaching a picture. The cord is fine, no damage. But one of the wires inside the machine that attaches to the connections block is fried. Did I cause this by installing the cord improperly? Or is the cord installed properly, and the dryer just malfunctioned?

Hi.

Shorten the wire by an inch or more and replace the connector. Make sure installing it back to tight it real good.
Inspect the heating element and motor switch connections.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and 03-Control Panel parts for Maytag MDE4000AYW - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Simon.
