Old Maytag Stackable with Dryer issues
Model Number: LSG7800AAW Brand:
More than 10 years
I don't know what to do about my stackable. It's old and the dryer keeps breaking, specifically the heating element. It is used constantly. It's a gas dryer and only the timed setting on the dryer works. The other setting no longer turns itself off and gets stuck on the "more dry" setting.
We have had the vent cleaned recently and the heating element replaced. The last time the heating element was replaced was about 5 months ago. After it was fixed not soon after I needed to cycle the dryer a couple of times to get the clothes dry since it never got hot enough. Now we are back to where we were before with no heat although air still blows.
Unfortunately we can't really replace this dryer since it's 24 inches deep and gas. The only replacements available are electric and would require us to change the electrical service. It's in a tight closet that cannot be enlarged or changed in size so we are stuck. We also can't relocate the laundry area as we live in a tiny space. I'm pregnant with my 3rd, due any minute, and depend on this thing, but don't want to throw good money after bad. I am not a person to do my own repairs but am looking for some advice on what to do. Do we just replace the heating element again and wait for the same thing to happen? Is there a new approach that needs to be taken by the repair person? Will this dryer because of its age never work that well no matter how well it's repaired? Can I find a new set like this somewhere? Like a refurbished one? Can I get this one refurbished? I need your appliance expertise! I'm desperate for some expert advice on this. This dryer is driving me crazy and yet I can't live without it! Thanks so much.
