Default Dryer doesn't start
Model Number: KEYE700TAL0   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: More than 10 years

I think this dryer is actually made by Whirlpool. Door switch okay. Thermal fuse okay. Can hear timer running, as well as voltage okay. Using schematic, voltages and resistance specs seem okay, except push-to-start, which has no specs, and seems suspect to me.

Push-to-start switch has 110V coming in and out of R1 & R2, after starting, but zero voltage coming out of CT1 at all times. Resistance across R1/CT1 is 0 at rest, 1600 (160?) when pushing-to-start. Resistance across R2/CT1 is 1600 in both modes. What should specs be, & are these in range?

I've heard that the the centrifugal switch on the motor could also be the problem, but I don't know how to check voltages or resistances on it, except that I've confirmed there is 110V supply coming in on both sides thru 1M & 2M.

Thanks, footsie

The first thing I would check is the timer switches. Check them for continuity according to the table in the tech sheet. Replace the timer if any switch is open (∞ resistance).

If there is nothing wrong then replace the motor.

- The part number for the timer is AP2911172

- The part number for the motor is AP3094245

Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid dryer Model KEYE700TAL0

Gene.

P.S. Kitchen Aid is a division of Whirlpool.
