A piece broke off of the dryer and was thrown out before I saw it. I'm told "its a round piece on the front".

The dryer now tears off buttons and has a horrible grinding sound when its run. I looked up the parts diagram Cabinet & Drum parts for GE DVL223GB4WW - AppliancePartsPros.com and it seems to me that the only part that would fit the bill is the Glide Drum (1124). Is there another part that could cause the problem?

Hi Dave,

"A round piece on the front" is definitely the drum glide. You also may want to check the upper and the lower felts and the rear bearing.

Thanks.

I ordered the glide. With how expensive the felts are, I'll wait until I open it up to order them. Hopefully this will be it.

How would I know if the bearing went bad?

I replaced the two glides and took a look at the felt. The felt is compressed down, but its still there. The glides were completely missing.

There is still too large a gap between the drum and the glides. Its as is there is supposed to be something holding the drum slightly higher, but I don't seen anything on the diagram. does this mean that my rear bearing went? How long is it supposed to last? I did push the drum up with my hand, and it ,moved into place without an issue. It just drops back down to a point that too low when I let go.

Thanks for your help with this.

Hi Dave,

Sounds like the rear bearing has gone bad. You also may want to replace the felts too. I would recommend to use the parts made by Frigidaire. These parts are exact the same with much better prices.

- The rear drum bearing kit Part number: 5303281153
Part number: 5303281153

- The upper drum felt Part number: 5303937182
Part number: 5303937182

- The lower drum felt Part number: 5303937183
Part number: 5303937183

All three parts will cost you almost two times less than one drum bearing kit sold by GE.

Gene.
