Hello, My dryer seems to be working but, every couple of times the clothes don't dry and the dryer shuts off. I don't get any error codes. It will run on tumble, but the problem is only on a drying cycle. Some time around last May 2011 I replaced the thermistor and thermal fuse, but I was getting an error code at that time. Does it sound like it needs to be replaced again? I checked exhaust hoses and vent and all is clear. Thank You for any help. Just got an update from my wife, she said if she does not use the dryer for a day or two it works fine, but after the 1st or 2nd load it starts having this problem,but no error codes. Thanks again.

It will run on tumble, but the problem is only on a drying cycle.
I am assuming that tumble had clothes in the unit and was just not a test and/or it also shuts off in a dry cycle without clothes in it.
Trying to determine if the door is not closing properly and the clothes hit the door and open the door switch which turns the unit off.

No. Once the thermal fuse blows it is blown and does not reset. Also the thermistor can cause overheating which can blow the fuse but by itself cannot shut the unit off.

Can the unit be started right away of do you have to wait several minutes before it will restart.
If you have to wait then odds are that the motor is overheating. This trips the motor's internal thermal protect and you have to wait for the motor to cool down so the thermal protect resets.

If this is the case, it could be you need a new motor at least that is the worst case.

Try rotating the drum in the correct direction manually. It should rotate fairly easily. You are trying to determine if the drum is putting too much load on the motor causing it to overheat. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers just to get a feel for it.

Open the unit up and give it a good cleaning, including the blower wheel.
The thought here is that for some reason the blower is blowing hot air back onto the motor causing it to overheat. This may be the most likely cause if the unit runs OK with clothes in it on tumble.

Check that all internal seals are OK.

Run the unit with the vent off just to totally eliminate it as the caiuse.
Unplug the unit and disconnect it from the vent system.
Now try a run.
If it now dries OK odds are the vent system needs checking/cleaning.
Be sure to check that the louvers on the outside of the house open correctly.

If you do not want any lint in the house.
Take a pair of pantyhose.
Put one leg into the other and then attach this to the dryer's vent.
Leave enough room so the pantyhose can balloon out like a windsock.

Both the above will let you check the temperature and the air flow.

Note: The above is not recommended for gas dryers due to carbon monoxide concerns.
