Model Number: NGD4800Vq1 Brand: Amana Age: Less than 1 year
I am attempting to repair an Amana gas dryer (model number NGD4800VQ1). Before mentioning the issues that I have had with it I believe its a good idea to mention that it was subject to 6-8 inches of flood water from Hurricane Sandy. Initially, after power was restored to the home, the dryer was operating normally for several days. Then an issue with the ignition of the burner arose. I attempted numerous cycles to dry a load of laundry to no avail. I went about taking the unit apart to where I could investigate the cycle of the burner. In doing so I vacuumed all of the exhaust tubes and ports. I focused on the problem at hand no flame when the dryer was powered on. Initially I believed this to be an issue with the igniter since I could verify that gas was being released with a BBq lighter. After purchasing a new igniter this didn't resolve the problem. I noticed that often the igniter went out, after being lit with no flame in the burner tube, and as well as for awhile with the BBq lighter. Gas would eventually flow into the tube and I would be able to ignite it with the BBQ lighter after the igniter was out. The gas wasn't making it way into the burner to be lit so I believed it may have been an issue with the coils. I purchased new coils and this did not remedy the problem either. There is still a timing issue between gas being present at the burner tube and the igniter cycling on and off. The dryer is about 6 months old and thought it was worth a shot to fix but have spent about $70 between the new igniter and coils. I was considering blowing out the burner assemble and or gas tube with a compressor to possible rid any obstructions that may hamper the travel of gas to the burner tube. I am not sure whether this would remedy the problem or damage the valve assembly. I don't see spending any more money on parts since buying a new valve assembly would make my repair costs about a third of a new unit. Furthermore I not sure whether other problems may arise with the dryer due to being subjected to saltwater. Do you have any recommendations?

Hi.
Clean the gas valve's orifice and if no luck - replace the gas valve. You may consider a new dryer because the salt water damage. Simon.

I used the blower attachment to my air compressor and blew out all the orfices in the valve assemby and reinstalled everything and this didn't resolve the problem. I removed the burner assembly again and shot WD 40 into all the orfices and worked the valve where the spring and nut was. After I blew out as much of the lubricant as possible. This resolved the problem. I was hesitant to use WD40 on the part being a valve assembly. It was the last step I was going to take before I was going to puchase a whole new assembly and double the cost of my troubleshooting. The dryer is working like a charm now.

I'm glad that you where able to fix the problem.
But it's very dangerous to use any oil lubricants on the gas valves as you mentioned. Simon.
