Model Number: MDE308DAYW Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
Tonight we noticed there was no heat coming from our dryer. I took it apart and found a burnt wire going to a device in the back, bottom left corner (when standing in front of the dryer). A photo is attached ....what do you think could have caused this? Is it just time for a new dryer? or is it worth saving.
It's a Maytag MDE308DAYW that is about 6 years old. Ads By Google Related Models |

Could have been just a bad connection.
What happens with a bad connection either the crimp or the connector to the heating coil is that it is a resistance. When current passes through it the connection heats up, this makes the connection worse so a little more resistance and more heat and so on and so on till the connection fails. You will need to cut back the wire till you get to nice clean copper and then install a new high current connector on to it. Be sure to clean the heating coil male connector with some fine sandpaper or emery cloth. I am assuming that every thin else worked OK with the unit. Specifically the temperature settings because if you could not select and get different temperatures you may have a problem in the heater circuit (a grounded element or a bad cycling thermostat)
