Default Fried timer or other?
Model Number: LDE6914ACE   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I was working inside the control panel (like an idiot while still plugged in) and the terminal of the buzzer touched the sheet metal and created an arc. Now the dryer doesn't work at all but still has power because the light still goes on when the door is opened. Now I know I fried something but don't know how to test each electrical part in the panel and I don't want to start replacing parts one by one until it works again or at all. It would be cheaper to buy a new one but if I can get away with spending less I'd just keep this one. Can a fried buzzer cause the problem or is it the timer. I know the timer itself is about $120.00 but if I go and get one and it doesn't resolve the problem then it wasn't worth it and I could have put it towards a new one. Any advice on how to test the timer or other parts in the panel? I don't have a multimeter but I would buy one but I don't know which settings to use or what reading I should be getting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Here are your parts
Parts for Maytag LDE6914ACE Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the wiring diagram.
I used a Word doc as it gave the best quality with the smallest file size.
Hopefully you have word.

You may have a power problem.
Looks like the interior light uses L2 to Neutral but the drum drive motor requires L1 to Neutral so I would start by checking the power.
Also does the ON light go on when you press the Start switch as it also uses L1 to Neutral.

Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
Check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Do this with the heater off and on.
Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!!

If it is an old house that uses fuses, kill ower to the fuse box and inspect the fuses. Sometimes you cannot tell if a fuse is blown so when you reinstall them swap them as you know that the L2 fuse is OK.
