Model Number: MGDC400VW0 Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
My Maytag Centennial gas dryer will no longer heat up when turned on. It still spins but does not produce any heat to dry the clothes. It will also run non stop as if the timer is not working as well. I have tried each setting, and all have failed to heat up.
Any suggestions? Ads By Google Related Models |

Below the dryer door on the left side is a plastic plug that will pop out. Start the dryer on timed dry high heat and look through that viewing hole and see if the igniter glows red and then turns off. If it does replace the coils on the gas valve. If you don't see it glow red you'll need to check it for continuity. If it reads open, replace it. Igniter-#279311 Coils-#279834

Remove the back of the dryer and check the thermal fuse first. On a gas dryer the thermal fuse is inline with the gas valve. Part# 3392519 If it checks good here's how to remove the front panel:
Remove the lint filter and the two screws right below it. Use a putty knife or something similar to release the two clips in the front corners between the top and front panel. Lift the top up and lean it back out of the way. Remove the two screws on the inside holding the front panel to the two sides. Lean the front panel forward and disconnect the door switch connector. Pull up on the front panel to release it from the two lower clip.

Hi. I found this forum because I'm having similar trouble. My dryer will start fine and heat fine. But after a few min. the heat goes out and will not start again. I vaccummed all the lint out of everywhere. Any ideas? Like I said, the glow plug glows, and it fires, but after a few min. goes out and won't re fire.
Thanks. John |

Hi John,
What is the complete model number of the dryer? Would the igniter glow again? Gene.

Greetings,
I tried the troubleshooting mentioned above and I found (or at least it seems) that the pilot light, the igniter and coils seem to be working. The next question would be, what if they don't light, ignite etc. on automatic settings? Is there a way to troubleshoot that? Thx |

Then you will need to find out where you're losing the voltage to the gas valve. If it works on timed and not automatic, it's probably the timer that's faulty.
