Model Number: 110.60832990 Brand: Kenmore Age: More than 10 years
My dryer recently stopped heating. It still ran but with no heat. I checked the fuses and thermostats and found the thermo cut-off was bad. So I replaced it. When I then restarted my dryer the new thermo cut off immediately exploded. My husband was convinced I put it in wrong, so he then put in another one which also immediately blew out, not quite as explosively but still it is now bad too.
We have checked the heating element and everything seems fine there. And we cleaned it out completely and there are to blockages in the vent. So what could cause this? Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi.
Check if the operating thermostat and hi limit are not shorted to the ground. Check the wire harness. Simon.

I don't think there is a ground on the hi limit thermostat, there are only two wires going to it and they are both red. We have checked the wiring and have seen no obvious shorts. One of the wires going to the hi limit thermostat had left a burnt mark on the cabinet bottom and the insulation around the wire had a small mark, but it didn't go all the way through to the wire. Wasn't sure if replacing that wire would help any or not? Or if there was more likely a short somewhere else that we can't find. How would I find a short?

Hi.
Disconnect the heating element from both sides and run the dryer (with the thermal cut off replaced). Check (using the multimeter) heater contacts to the ground. Simon.
