Model Number: LGR5636EQ3 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
I have a Whirlpool LGR5636EQ3 gas dryer that no longer heats. The motor runs, drum turns, and the fan runs but there is no heat. Opening the dryer door causes the system to stop, as it should. However, there is a definite odor of gas (which concerns me) so I know that gas is being supplied. Any suggestions on troubleshooting will be appreciated.

Hi.
There is small square opening at the bottom, remove the covert. Check please if the ignitor cycling on/off. Post the results. Try to locate the area of the gas leak.Is it from the inside, from the behind? Simon.

Thank you Simon. I removed the back cover and then removed the item shown as #14 on the Bulkheads Parts Diagram so I could visualize the igniter operation and with the gas off I turned on the dryer and watched the igniter glow. Having verified that the igniter was working correctly I then turned on the gas and restarted the dryer. I had expected an almost instant ignition of the gas, but it took maybe 5 to 10 seconds for it to ignite. Once it ignited and I was able to verify proper heating I reinstalled the part # 14 and reinstalled the back of the dryer. I am not sure why the dryer was not originally heating or why there was a smell of gas (which has now disappeared), but the problem has cleared.
Thank you again for your assistance. John Knoxville TN |
