I have a Kenmore Eltie oasis electrical dryer (5 years old). Yesterday we ran the dryer in the morning, and last night the smoke alarm in the house went off. The smoke came from the dryer. Unplugged it last night and took off the back panel. When I removed the back panel there was a layer of lint covering the bottom of the dryer. The top of this layer was black/ashy. I cleaned out the dryer bottom, but I'm not sure what to do next. Is something I should clean every year? It doesn't seem normal to have lint in this part of the dryer. I found 1 comment online that said the lint removal system for this dryer is "the worst ever" and that it will keep happening. I clean the exhaust ducting every year, but it never has more than what I would call mild build.
