i replaced the motor on my dryer but it still won't engage the heating element turns on but it won't shut off unless you turn the timer off or pull the plug

Hi.
Most likely you've got two problems there. One-the thermal fuse is open. Two-the heating element is grounded. Unplug the dryer, remove the back, take both wires off the heater and using the multimeter check each heater's contact to the cabinet. If there is continuity - replace the heater.
