"My Estate dryer, model number TEDS840JQ2, stopped heating up. After doing some troubleshooting, I determined that the Thermal Cut-Off was bad (p/n 3977393, 309 deg.). It measured open with an ohmmeter. I measured 9.4 ohms across the heating element which is within spec. I jumpered out the thermal cut-off and the dryer would heat up and measured 240V across the heating element. I have ordered and received the thermal cut-off replacement kit (p/n AP3094244). Is it recommended to replace the hi-limit thermostat along with the thermal cut-off? The hi limit thermostat that comes in the kit is different than what is on the dryer. Is that the standard replacement part? As of right now, I am blaming this failure on ventilation which I have since cleaned thoroughly including the lint chute assembly and all parts going to outside. Are there any other causes for this failure? (ex. does the part get weak with age?, did the hi-limit thermostat not do it's job, can the cycling thermostat be bad? Thank you"

Hi.
Replace the thermostats in the kit. You already cleaned the vents and that should take care of the problem.
