Model Number: ler8875rqi Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Drying was operating and then siezed and stoped. I manually turned the drum a few times. It operates again, making a "clinging" and scratchy sound. belt? bearing? I'm clueless. Please suggest a diagnosis and a method of repair. Thank you.
I should add that when the original siezing occurred the load was small, a table cloth and a pair of tennis shoes. Ads By Google Related Models Last edited by Schaffer : 09-20-2009 at 05:32 AM. Reason: Added more facts. |

Your Model Number looks to be short a couple digits.
The original problem May have been something that jammed between the drum and the frame. Run your fingers around the ends of the drum where it meets the frame to see if something is still stuck in there. Be careful in case it is sharp. Also check the paddle in the drum to see if it is loose. If the above is OK you will have to open it up to see what is wrong. Try to find the general location of the clink (front/back/left/right etc.) so you have an idea where to look

I checked around the drum, on the frame and could not find anything causing a stick. The drum moves well right now. How do I check the paddle? The noise comes from the back of the dryer, although I can't say if it top or bottom.
