Model Number: LGN2000KQ1 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Problem: Dryer ignites and works well for about 20 minutes or followed by the igniter cycling on and off with no flame.
Work done: Took dryer and venting completely apart, cleaned, inspected and lubricated where needed. Replaced gas valve coils (part #279834), flame sensor (part #338906) and tried running the dryer with the exhaust duct disconnected, but problem persists. Question: Read somewhere that the coil resistances should be measured after running the dryer for 15-20 minutes. So below are the resistance measurements for the new coils main, secondary (1/2) and secondary (1/3). Before running: 1318, 1426, 592 After running ~20 Minutes: 1573, 1666, 677 So the coils would appear to be out of spec slightly before being energized and certainly after being energized for ~20 minutes. But would this cause the problem or is this typical behavior and within an acceptable range due to self-heating? Although the coils are new, I’m questioning because I also read that a number of people have encountered defective coils (not from any source in particular), new out of the package. Incidentally, I still have the old coils andthe main coil is open. Your expert advice is appreciated! Ads By Google Related Models |

Thanksfor the reply. That was my thought, but how do I know another new set of coilswill not have the same issue? The previous new set came in a sealed FSP package(not from APP mind you
I'll order the part and report back with results. Thanks again. |

Coils can be hard to troubleshoot to start with.
A lot of times they do not check open like your old one did. They end up failing after they get warmed up and cycle a few times. From what you have told me if this was something I run into I would go out to my truck, get another set of coils and try it. Not that easy for you, but if you order them from APP they have a great return policy if they don't do the trick.
