Heavy loads run for about an hour on the auto dry setting and the dryer shuts down before the cloths are dry. Heavy loads need to be cycled thru again. I cleaned out the vent tube, replaced the outside vent trap and even removed and cleaned out the lint chute. The vent is straight sheetmetal ductwork with two 90 degree angles so there are no restrictions. I do not see any moisture sensors on the parts list, so I don't know what might be the problem.

The dryer does dry a heavy load in 60 mins on timed dry, but takes a cycle and a half on auto dry.

Sounds like the problem is a bad timer because it controls time and temperature.

Thnaks for the input. I think I'll pass on the $100 part and just use the timed dry from now on. The dryer is 12 years old after all

It can be a useful solution in such situation. BTW, it's always better to do smaller loads.
