Default A few issues..
Model Number: 110.96478100   Brand: Kenmore   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
As stated, 110.96478100 Kenmore.

3 issues

1. Dryer timer will "click" but not advance if the timer is in the "Off" position.

2. Heating element will turn on and glow red while timer is in an "on" position, without pressing the Start button.

Troubleshooting the glowing heating element, I took off the assembly that encases the heating element, removed the heating element to ensure it isn't grounded, didn't witness any coils touching the frame..so I put the heating element back in the metal casing, put it back on and the problem persists.

3. Heating element will only remain on for 10-20 minutes of a full cycle then turn off.

The dryer is venting into the wash room, checked the venting and it is not clogged at all.

Any ideas?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for 110.96478100 models | AppliancePartsPros.com

I was not able to find a wiring diagram for this dryer but did come up with basic info on commercial Whirlpool driers and your unit was made by Whirlpool.
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Servic.../$FILE/cl4.pdf

1. Dryer timer will "click" but not advance if the timer is in the "Off" position.

Not sure what this means. As far as I know when at "Off" the timer should not even click but I have no experience with commercial dryers so this may be related to the coin operation.

2. Heating element will turn on and glow red while timer is in an "on" position, without pressing the Start button.
Dryers have a centrifugal switch on the motor that is normally open when the motor gets close to operating speed this switch closes providing power to the heaters. This ensures that there is air flow before heating starts. Perhaps the switch contacts are welded shut or for some reason it is remaining closed even when the motor is off. See page 11 in the manual.

3. Heating element will only remain on for 10-20 minutes of a full cycle then turn off.
Again not sure about this. Heating elements do not stay on for a full cycle.
They turn on/off to regulate the temperature. Does the heater come back on or does it stay off?

Sorry I could not be more helpful, hopefully someone with commercial experience will jump in.

As stated earlier in the post, my dryer is a KENMORE. Model 110.96478100. When clicking on the link you provided, it provides parts for model 110.96407160, which is a Whirlpool, as its closest match.

The motor has pooped out on me, and will "growl" when I press the start button, but does nothing further unless I hold in the door switch with my knee, press the start button, and "help" the tumbler start its tumbling motion, then will stay on for 5-10 minutes and die out.

Think I need to sell this on craigslist for 5-10 bucks. Thanks for the help anyway!

Sounds like a plan

From what you state I would say at a minimum you need a new motor and often it is not worth putting the dollars into an old unit.
