Model Number: gew9250pwo Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
My Whirlpool Duet front load dryer starts, heats, but stops after 2-3 minutes as if someone shut it off. The controls are still lit up as they should be.This will happen on timed or sensing dry modes.. If I try to restart it,the drum moves about an inch, then stops..If I let it sit about 1 minute,it will start and run for anywhere from 1 to 3 to 5,maybe 10 minutes, then shuts off..I replaced the thermister, and I jumpered the thermal fuse with no changes..I put wet cloth over the sensing contacts and get good beeps during the diagnostics..I did the control diagnostics and keypad tests..There are no codes and the keypad tests are fine..I cheked for excess lint, but am getting excellent flow out of the outside vent..I removed connections on control and machine circuit boards and ohmed the door switch and motor circuit, which check fine. But,with this being seemingly heat related,I can't say i am getting to the circuits quick enough to verify accurate readings during any of the tests....I think everything points to motor, since it does move the drum about an inch trying to start..I have tried holding the start switch and moving the drum at the same time, which also does not help...there are no humming or buzzing sounds from motor, and when dryer is running it is quiet and dries fine..

Very likely the motor has gone bad. Especially if it will do the same thing with no heat dry set.

I found the trouble...It was the circuit board that mounts on the left side of the dryer..The motor relay is mounted to it and the board has a burned spot on the backside..You couldn't see it unless you took the board apart...Its possible that the motor is also bad causing excessive draw that burnt the board..
