Dryer starts/heats ONLY when start button pressed

My basement flooded about foot high. The dryer was connected to AC oulet when this happened but not running/operating.
I removed the standing water from inside the drum and let the dryer sit and dry out for 3 weeks before I even tried to start it.
Now when I try to start the dryer the drum will turn, heat will be present until I release the start button. There are no different sounds or characteristics. I'm hoping to repair this unit as I have with my washer. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most likely the problem is a bad motor main winding. The correction is to replace the motor.
