The electric dryer will not start. Power comes on and the service diagnostic test shows a F-70 and a P3E. The machine control electronics board has been replaced. After being replaced, the dryer will start for a few seconds and stop and will not start again

Here are your parts Replacement parts for Kenmore 11087081601 by Kenmore Elite | AppliancePartsPros.comSears parts will have actual breakdowns which they like to keep in house. See the attachment for the tech sheet Looks like F-70 is a communications error. Have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes to see if it will reset. Why was the control board replaced in the first place? What diagnostic tests have you tried? |

Unplugging does not rethe set. I have only run the self diagnostics test from the tech sheet. The control board was changed for the dryer not operating and the F70 code. My thinking is that something is causing the boards to fail and it happens when you try to start the drying cycle

Did the new control board run at least once before F70 showed up again?
Try test #6 on Page 9. I would also check the +5 volts with a meter. This is your logic supply so if it is low the electronics will mess up.
The problem may be in the console (keypad). It is an active device as they use a serial port to communicate with the control board so if there is a problem with the electronics on this board you will get communication errors.
Carefully check the cable between the 2 devices. I would use a meter just to be sure all the tracks (wires) are OK. Check the connections on the console for cold solder joints. Cold joints are often a duller gray and/or have pin holes. Also if you gently wiggle the component on the component side you may see the leg move in the solder joint. A magnifying glass helps here.
Check the connectors sometimes you can see a poorly crimped connection or a pin has backed out.Or if a pin has a dull gray or brown coating.
It would not hurt to try the following. Connector Cleaning / Checking Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try. |
