Model Number: ALE866SAW Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
This gas dryer works fine in timed modes, but in automatic mode I've had this problem for a while and haven't been able to resolve it. The dryer will start and run normally, but occasionally the timer will never advance to cool down and will continue to run (and heat) until you turn it off.
I found the service manual at: http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...S3200007R0.pdf My problem appears to match up with #14 in the troubleshooting procedures. To date I've done or replaced the following (in this order): - Removed & cleaned duct / wall vent. - Checked continuity and operation of moisture sensor. - Replaced timer. - Replaced moisture sensor control board. - Removed moisture sensor bars, cleaned them and plastic air duct assembly where they mount. - Checked / cleaned door seal. - Checked cycling thermostat and thermostat heater, heater resistance was low (1500 ohms) so I replaced both with the new 1-piece thermostat/heater assembly. So far none of this has made any difference on the problem. I also used to occasionally experience a problem where the dryer would run but not heat so the clothes were wet at the end of the cycle (but the cycle would end on it's own.) I haven't seen that problem in a while, so one of the replaced components probably fixed that issue. Can anyone offer any advice on what I should check next? The dryer's in great condition other than this and I can run it in timed mode but I'd like to have everything working. Thanks, Nick Wright |

Sorry , my mistake, should have asked how long the vent was... 5 foot long is not going to make much of a difference ... what happens when you tape a piece of wire across the two sensor bars together ? ( in auto cycle )

I tried it with the vent disconnected last night, it didn't make a difference in the operation.
I've tested the contacts per the service manual by taping a piece of metal across them. I get 3 beeps shortly after starting the cycle. |
