It wont shut just runs.Now it quit getting hot pulled the element and checked it and it is bad.Could it be my timer if so how do i check it thanks

See the attachment for the wiring diagram

Could be that it is just the heating coil.
Try running it in timed dry.
Does the timer advance?
If yes odds are it is just the element.
In auto modes the timer gets power through the heating element when it is shut off.
In timed dry it gets power directly from the line, in your case 240volts.
