Hello, Super Noob here.

My sister bought a used kenmore dryer and I changed the 4 prong to a 3 prong. I plugged it in and sparks came out of the back of the dryer. I have changed dryers plugs from 4 to 3 prong a few times with no problem. The dryer will not start now. I took off the back cover and inspected the wires for burns. There were no burns on the main 3 prong plug at the outlet or the back of the dryer.

This was the puzzling part for me. When I removed the back I saw that the wires that plug into the heating component (coils) were not plugged in and one of the wires had been melted. See pics below. I thought maybe the fuse had blown but I don't know how to check that. I see the fuse but I don't know if I check it like a normal fuse by looking at it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My questions:
1. Did I fry this dryer when I plugged it in?
2. Why are the wires not plugged into heating component?
3. Would that be the cause of the dryer not starting or does that only affect the heating?
4. What do you suggest I do now?

Thanks a ton!

Why are my pics showing astricks and not working, lol?
