No it does not and it does not start squeaking until it has been running for a few minutes.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for Frigidaire GLEH1642DS1 Frigidaire/laundry Center | AppliancePartsPros.comA common problem with these units is the rear drum support, see Section 5. Over time the grease dries out and it starts to squeak, often a squeal. Looks like there is a rear access cover. Remove it and the ball bearing retainer (Item 6). Then remove the ball bearing (Item 5) and put a couple drops of oil (3-in-1 or sewing machine oil) (not WD-40) on the shaft end. Do not go crazy with the oil as this is in the center of your heating element so you do not want the oil migrating all over. It usually helps if someone else rotates the drum manually while you oil the bearing, helps pull the oil in. If this helps then the rear bearing is your problem. If it does not help it does not totally eliminate the bearing as the cause. If you click on a parts picture a new page will open often with more info. Also be careful when removing the retainer. The ball bearings like to jump out, take off and play hide and seek. Wasting an hour or so of your time. |

We replaced the front upper and lower felt and guides to eliminate staining problem - now the drier squeaks after it's running for a few minutes. Could the bearing have gone or did we do something wrong in installing the felt and guides?

Could the bearing have gone or did we do something wrong in installing the felt and guides? I cannot say without being there and seeing how you replaced the parts.
My guess would be the rear bearing as this is a problem area on these units. Try to isolate where the squeak is coming from. I know this is often impossible since the whole dryer seems to squeak but it is worth a shot.
Looks like the dryer has a rear access panel that will let you get at the bearing. I would remove the access cover and the little clip. Be careful that the ball bearing does not take off on you as they like to hide once freed and can cost a couple hours looking for it. Then put a couple drops of oil in the bearing rear hole and see if the squeak disappears or changes. If it does then it is probably the bearing. Do not go crazy with the oil as you are in the heater area. This is just a temporary fix if it works. You will have to open the unit up again and re-lube the bearing with high temperature grease. Check it for any signs of wear. Note that this test will tell you if it is the bearing but it is not a positive test so if the oil does nothing it does not mean that the bearing is OK.
You did not say so I do not know if you re-lubed the bearing when you had it apart. Also the rear bearing may have worn as the dryer drum may have been riding incorrectly due to the worn felts. |
