With the drum belt taken off, the dryer motor starts, makes a lot of vibration like noise and stops. Motor is hot to touch after it stops. The motor will start again after it cools down. There is no decernable end play or radial play on motor shaft at either end. Also, motor turns freely and smoothly by hand.

Replaced motor as suggested. Symptoms remain exactly as before.

Solution: When my contractor was refinishing the garage he wired the NMEA 14-30R plug socket incorrectly. UGH!!!

Replaced motor as suggested. This did not resolve the problem.
Symptoms remain the same.
