Default Gas dryer not hot for long
Model Number: LDG7304AAE   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

I have a Maytag gas dryer, the flame starts, runs for about 15 seconds and turns off, wait a couple minutes and restarts, takes forever to dry clothes. All the vents/passages are clean. Replaced the Hi limit stat on the combustion chamber. Fan is drawing air through tub. I pulled the front off, blocked the front of tub to simulate a closed door, turned machine on and watched flame, flame is being sucked into transfer tube, which goes to tub. Tried to adjust flame, flame is not uniform so, could it be the "burner"? If I jumper the hi limit stat, flame stays on even though I can hear the "stat" click off. So the hi limit stat is turning off the flame, why? Do burners get dirty or burn up? My next move is to replace the burner, perhaps this will give me a uniform flame. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Steve V.
