Have a Roper dryer that will heat up but the motor and drum do not start. Coil heats with door open or closed (kinda scary). Timer sounds like it's quietly turning and will shut down coil in the off position between settings. Does not heat coil on air dry (which is correct). Checked door switch continuity and it appears to be working. Belt is intact, drum feels like it turns correctly. Pulled and re-inserted every electrical clip (we're near the ocean and things corrode readily). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sounds very much like you need to replace the motor, but you will not know for certain until you do. It is not an expensive one, so if you like the dryer and feel comfortable taking that chance I would recommend it.

Good luck, let us know what you do and how it turns out.
