Default Heating element powers on and thats t.
Model Number: len2000jq1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Ok so the dryer heating element starts up no matter what - door open, door closed, whether or not I push the start button or not, If I advance my main swith to any cycle other than air dry the element automatically starts heating without me pressing start. I dismantled the unit today and inspected the centifugal switch. I notcied that one of the contacts (there were 3 total) has what appeared to be some discoloration on the copper, similar to what might happen from a soldering iron. However the points travelled freely and the metal was in tact. Manipulating the switch did not do anything. I plugged the unit in whil the switch was taken apart and maipulated the centifigul part.. I ended up putting it back together due to time constraints. Thanks in adavance.

Hi Leo,

Check the heating element if it's shorted to the ground.

Check for continuity across 1M and 2M centrifugal switch terminals (both red wires).

Hope the wiring diagram will help you too.

Post your findings.

Gene.
