Kenmore dryer starts to heat, makes odd cycle noise and stops heating 2 minutes in
Purchased new gas dryer from Sears 5/2004-noticed last few days weird cycle noise about 2-5 minutes in, thought it was just getting old-realized clothes were not drying perhaps 50%-noticed top of dryer not hot-interior not hot, but for the beginning few minutes heat in activated. If you let the cycle go-this noise activates and stays on for exactly 15 seconds and then goes back to "normal dryer noise". It cycles about every 1-3 minutes of 15 second weirdness. Today we took the entire back off, cleaned the interior venting system and made sure the exterior venting is totally clear. No abnormalities noted on appearance other than good amount of lint. Turned it on without connected to venting-ran well, good heat, got very excited.(Probably didn't give it enough time). Hooked it back to vent-noise again and no heat.
Strong feeling it is the coils but I do not have a front cover on the dryer-only a little square cube-would like to assess pilot light. How do you take off that little cube? my husband(who is at work now)says you have to release a clip inside and tilt the dryer up to release the clip. I'd like to just pop it off and have the answer before he comes home tonight. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks wifey
