Hello,

Last night my gas dryer started making a weird noise and want to find out what it is.
Also, since I will be taking it apart to replace something from the research I have done, what else should i consider replacing?

Model 10087870100

Here is a recording I made of the noise it makes...

Hi.

Unfortunately cannot pin point the noise.
There are several things you need to check.
Drum support rollers, idler pulley, motor, blower wheel.
The access to the blower wheel is from the rear of the dryer.
If you pull out the drum and bypass the door switch you can check if it's the motor or blower.
Check the front and rear drum felt seals.
It may sounds like a big project, but in reality should not take you more than ah hour.

Thank you. Post the results.

Are there any how to's around?
I am not really sure what it is i am looking for or what any of those parts you mention look like.

Thanks,

Hi.

Here is the manual. Your dryer may look a bit different, but in general it's the same.

Thank you.

Simon.

Hello.

Well I took it apart and the noise comes from the motor it seems (see picture below). I used a vacuum and air compressor to clean everything (after taking picture lol) and the noise went down a bit but still I can hear it.
So is it worth buying the motor or I should probably just consider buying a new one? How hard is it to replace it?

Also, I ran the dryer without the drum just like you see in the picture, no damage happens with this correct? just want to make sure.

Well I took it even more apart and found a LOT of misc little items inside to where the blower wheel is  and I cleaned everything as best I could and turned it back on and noise is gone :)

There was thing sponge like gasket around the cover of the blower wheel that is all eaten up thru the years, do i need to get a replacement or it will do fine without it? I am thinking of taking about the wheel and cleaning everything since i have it apart and also get a replacement belt as part of a maintenance.

Hi.

You are doing a very good job. Most likely you can survive without that seal.
For the maintenance Whirlpool makes a kit which includes:
belt, rollers and idler pulley.

The kit Part number: AP3131942
Part number: AP3131942

The instructions are included.

Thank you and good luck.

Simon.
