My 1995 Kenmore electric dryer [model 110.96573220] stopped heating completely. The drum still runs, I have no tripped circuit breakers, the filters are not plugged, etc. It appears my heating element or associated parts (thermostat, etc.) is/are dead, but I don't know how to determine which specific parts. I don't see a parts diagram available for this unit. Any next steps to try with my limited troubleshooting ability? Any rough costs on potential part issues? Is it worth it to fix a 12 - 13 year old dryer? Any input is appreciated - this is my first crack at fixing this unit. It has run great until now. Thanks in advance.

Here are the parts I would check for continuity first: the heating element (#14 on the break down diagram), the thermal cut off (#1 on the break down diagram), the hi limit thermostat (#34 on the break down diagram) and the thermal fuse (#59 on the break down diagram).

If any of them is open - replace it.

To access all of these parts you have to remove the rear panel.

- The part number for the heating element is AP3094254

- The part number for the kit of the thermal cut off and the hi limit thermostat is AP3094244

- The part number for the thermal fuse is AP3132867

I am a single mom and have checked the fuse with a digital ohm meter and there are numbers that go across the screen. I am assuming that this means it is good. I have a Kenmore dryer, model #110.96573220.

I have check the thermal cut-off and the hi limit thermostat and one of them has numbers running across the screen on both sets of posts, but one of them only has the numbers running across the screen on the bigger of the two posts. The little two posts off to the side produce nothing across the screen. Count this one be the problem?

I have not found the element yet! Where the heck is it at? Your help is very much appreciated and if I can solve this on my own, maybe I can help someone else who is in the samy type of situation.
