Can't find the model number. It is a 70 series Kenmore electric about 4 or 5 years old. There is a number on the black panel on the back of the unit behind the knob controls but it does not indicate that it is a model #. I am thinking it is just a part number. The number is 697267.

The dryer runs but will not heat. Would like to know what to check before assuming it is the heating element as I have heard it can be other parts causing the problem. We would prefer to DIY so any information will be greatly appreciated.

First thing is to make sure that one of the two breakers that make your dryer function hasn't tripped. That would allow the unit to run but not heat.

After that there are thermostats involved, wiring, the timer, possibly a temp switch (if your model has one). The element is the most probable reason, just not the only. A couple of the things I mentioned are rarities. To make most checks you'll need a meter. Really going to need a model # when it comes time to ordering parts.

Have you looked on the front panel after opening the door, that is a common place for the model# to be.
