Hi. I have a Magic Chef electric clothes dryer that's about 8 or 9 yrs. old. It recently started requiring several cycles to completely dry a load. The dryer is on the 1st floor of a 2 story building and the vent is on the roof, 24 feet up.

First I called an appliance repair man. He checked out the dryer and said it was fine; the vent probably needed to be cleaned. So I called a vent cleaner and he cleaned the vent all the way to the top. We have run a few loads, but it still won't dry.

The vent cleaner returned with a video scope. When we removed the dryer hose there was a ball of lint right there at the bottom. The scope showed that the vent was indeed clean to the top. There is an elbow fitting at the top, so we couldn't see the opening but we did see daylight. Then we ran the dryer hose into a bucket of water and it seemed to dry the clothes fine.

The vent cleaner suggested that the dryer was not strong enough to blow the lint all the way to the top so it was forming a ball, which was clogging the vent pipe.

Is has worked fine all of these years. Is it possible for the blower to weaken over time and not be able to blow the lint all the way to the top anymore?

I am trying to decide whether to keep trying to fix this or just replace it.

Open the blower housing and check the blower wheel. Make sure the vent line between the dryer and the wall is made in accordance with the Installation instructions.

You also have to check the flopper at the vent outlet on top of the roof. If it's not opening properly that can be a problem. Visible daylight through the scope does not mean it opens all the way.

Thanks a lot Gene! You were right, the flopper at the vent outlet on top of the roof was the last thing I checked and sure enough...it was clogged.
All working fine now.
