I have a whirlpool dryer that will not start. It was working fine and then would not start.

I have checked the power source and it is good, the light insdie the drum works. I have checked the door switch and is it OK. The vent is clean.

I have removed the on/off switch and will try to get a new one tomorrow but now I am wondering if the problem could be the thermal fuse.

Is there an easy way to determine if the problem is the switch or the fuse or do I have to use a meter?

You really should get a meter, they are not expensive ($15.00 to $20.00 at a good hardware store, as little as $3.00 at the cheapo imported tools store).

However, if you want to test the thermal fuse without it you can do this.

1. Unplug the dryer
2. Take the leads off of the thermal fuse and tape them tightly together.
3. Plug in the machine and see if it works.

If it operates ok, replace the thermal fuse.

NOTE: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE FOR ANY REASON OPERATE THE MACHINE IN THIS MANNER. THIS FUSE IS ONE OF THE FEW THINGS STANDING BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR HOUSE BURNING DOWN!!
