Model Number: tedx640pqo Brand: Estate Age: 1 - 5 years
When i first start the dryer it runs great for a couple of minutes. then is starts making a banging noise and vibrating as if it has lots of shoes in it. it then smells like something getting hot.

I am leaning towards a problem with your rear roller set or with the idler pulley. I think the smell is the motor overheating and trying to turn the drum against the resistance of the bad rollers or idler.
Take the dryer apart and examine each of these parts, in fact, they are not expensive so I would replace both and see if that fixes things. Good luck.
