Model Number: wed5800swo Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
I have a Whirpool dryer (model WED5800SWO) that is STILL not drying properly. Here is what I have done thus far. I removed the rear of the dryer and thorougly cleaned all the lint out of it; including the vent and vent hose. I noticed the element would only stay hot for approximately 15 seconds at a time. I was advised the dryer needed a new thermostat. I repalced all 3 of them. I also replaced the thermal cutoff, witch included a high limit thermostat (placed directly under the heating element. The dryer works better but I noticed the element is still cycyling on and off. It does stay on longer than the previous mentioned 15 seconds but still has to be run twice before the clothes are dry. Is the element supposed to cycle on and off? And if not what should I do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my power bill was significantly higher from running the dryer twice as much.

Hi MarkLow
The element is supposed to cycle on and off, that way it maintains an even temperature. I would suggest you remove the blower cover and cleans out with a power air blower or vac the blower fan, making sure that it is operating correctly. If you have heat and you have tumbling the only thing which can prevent your clothes from drying in the right time is insufficient air flow, and the blower assembly is the prime suspect. Good luck.
