Gas dryer, no heat
Model Number: GLGR341AS4 Brand: Electrolux Age: 1 - 5 years
(I actually have no idea how old the dryer is - I know it's at least a few years old.)
Gas dryer has absolutely no heat. I read online somewhere to test the resistance of the igniter. I didn't have a multimeter, but I went out and purchased a digital one and followed the instructions for resistance testing. I unplugged the connector for the igniter and tested for resistance at the connector and the default reading on the multimeter never changed. I'm not sure how to interpret that. Does that mean the igniter is definitely bad? or maybe my multimeter isn't working correctly? Or maybe there's a short in the wiring between the igniter and the connector? Are there other parts I should be looking at/testing as well? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! Oh, one other bit of info that may or may not be relevant. Earlier this year the basement where the dryer is located was flooded for a few days - 4 to 6 inches of water. That was about 2.5 months ago. The dryer has worked just fine since then - i.e. with heat. But I'm wondering if the water could have started damaging one of the parts and it just took awhile for the damage to show itself? I also started the dryer in the dark with the top lifted up, looking down towards the front left corner of the dryer, and never saw any light/glow from that area like I presumably would have if the igniter was doing anything at all. The result of the igniter test you received can be due to a bad igniter (∞ resistance) or you did something wrong.
The following article on our forum will explain in detail how to run a continuity test using either an analog meter or a digital meter - How To Check Continuity With Ohmmeter. |
I re-did the test using both the ohmmeter function as well as the continuity test function of this multimeter. Both tests indicate no continuity. Time to order a new igniter then, right?
