My gas dryer will not heat up. I have checked it out and found that if I short out either of the two thermostates located down by the blower unit the electric igniter will heat up and the gas flame will ignite.

My question is how to verify if the thermostates are good or defective.

I have ohmed out the thermostates and found the following condition on both of them.

On one side there is only one terminal and on the other side there are two terminals. When I place on ohm meter lead on the side with one terminal and the other lead on the lower terminal on the other side I get some resistance but it is not very much. When I leave the lead on the side with only one terminal and move the other lead to the upper terminal I get an open condition. Is this correct? Or is the thermostate bad?

I did not measure the resistance between the two terminal on the same side.

Thanks for you help.
