I have a Matag model MEDC400VWO electric dryer and it is overheating in the auto dry cycle. The timer did not seem to advance and when I removed the clothes they were hot,dry and wrinkled. I removed the back and checked the cycling thermostat and it was covered with 1/8" of caked on lint. I removed the lint thinking that it was insulating the sensor and causing the overheating but it did not fix the problem. The dryer seemed to work on the time dry cycle when I removed the clothes when the buzzer went off. One time I waited 15-20 min before removing the clothes after the buzzer went off and the timer had advanced past the off position to the very dry setting on the low temperature auto dry cycle. The dryer was off but the heating element seemed to be on because the clothes were hot and the outside of the dryer was also hot. My first thought was that the cycling thermostat or high temperature thermostat were bad. Now that the timer does't seem to be working correctly I'm not sure where to start.
