SOLVED, see answer below!

My first post, let's see how it turns out...

I have a Whirlpool dryer LEW0050PQ3. The fan motor has connector with 4 spaces where only 3 has wires: Blue, Red and Purple.
The plug that connects to the connector has also 4 spaces, but only 2 wires, FM1 and FM2, both Gray in color. No third wire is used.

I know one of the two Gray wires (FM2) was connected to the Purple wire on the motor end, but to which one was the other Gray (FM1) connected to? Blue or Red? I have the wiring diagram, but it does not show the motor end.

Fan stopped working and I found a loose wire. I don't want to guess, because the motor's over $200. If I connect to the wrong wire, is it going to blow or just turn backwards?

No rush, but hate to wear damp clothes...

I have looked at the service manual and the wiring diagram, and I cannot tell you how it goes.

I am going to recommend you contact Whirlpool and see if you can get some tech support. This is a somewhat new and rare model, and few of us have had that much experience on it, so rather than guess I think you should make it certain.

Well, after trying to figure the problem from the diagrams which did NOT show the motor end of the connector and after trying to find answer from the internet, repair companies and the manufacturer, I turned back to my equipment, emptied my brain and started thinking from blank. (Yes I had to write all this nonsence before giving an easy answer because it was so frustrating to have the machine on the floor opened up for about a week). So I already knew the right connector for the F2 because that was still attached to the purple wire. The question was about connecting the F1 to either the blue or to the red wire. I started to look the diagram again and came to an conclusion that the motor must be very similar to the otherone which has 3 wires connected; one common, one to turn the main drum counterclockwise and the other to turn the drum to the opposite direction. From the available wiring diagram I was able to find out that the purple wire was the common, so only thing that could go wrong by installing the F1 to a wrong connector would be to run the fan backwards. So I made a quess and againsta all Murphys laws it went right at the first time. It was the one on the left, not the one on the bottom, so if I remember right now, the color was red on the motor end. Tried the thing, got it working, closed the cover and lifted it on top of the washer and all set!

Hopefully the above will help someone else...

..by the way, as I was finally able to get those European -kind front loading machines, I'm using a fraction of electricity and water now and on top of that it's so quiet I already forgot it's on! Too bad they're trying to sell all those industrial size models, not the small normal-size-family-one we have. They're hard to get, but all worth it!!!

Glad that worked out and thanks for sharing your logic with us. As you can see from your travel through the world of trying to find a correct answer, sometimes you just have to do it yourself.

Happy to hear that the front loader is working well for you. They are the way to go, when they work. It's just that from our perspective they are just so frustrating when it comes time to repair.
