I have a Kenmore dryer and it will not stay running and does not heat up. I can press the "push to start" switch and it starts; but as soon as presssure is released from the switch it turns off. I tested the breaker at the panel and found it to be working. Next I tested (with a multi-meter) the power outlet and found that it appeared to be within required parameters. Next I tested the push to start switch. Removing the contacts and testing with a multimeter while pushing the button. I got a tone from my meter. I think the switch is good. Then I disassembled the unit and tested continuity of the heat element, the high limit cut-off and the thermal cut-off. All of these appeared to have good continuity (my multimeter emitted a tone upon contact). Next I removed the heating element and check for any breaks in the element, none were found. There was some discoloration and a few hairline cracks on the metal plattform upon which the element is intertwined. I assume these are normal. Next I moved on to test the thermal fuse and the thermistor, both of these are located on the blower housing. I disconnected one of the contacts on each and got a good reading on the thermal fuse; however the thermistor gave no tone when I tested it. I have never posted to a forum so I apoligize if my posting is to lengthy. FINALLY my question; I want to know if the thermistor is the problem as it failed the continuity test. Any help in this matter would be greatly helpful. Thanks for your time and feedback.
