I have a Whirlpool LTE6234AN1 combo washer/dryer. When I push the start button on the dryer, the usual beginning sound of the motor is heard but then it stops and nothing else happens. The drum won't turn and the motor stops .

When you try to start it does the drum turn at all or does it just buzz.

Often this is the motor. If the motor cannot start then it eventually overheats and trips it's internal thermal protect. You then have to wait for the motor to cool down so the thermal protect resets before you can try to re-start it.

There can be a number of causes of this.

1. Too much drag on the motor.
Try turning the drum by hand. Should turn fairly easily. If not could be the drum is jammed for some reason. You may want to try this on a couple other dryers to get a feel for it.
If it is difficult to turn run your fingers around the back and front of the tub to machine seal. To see if something has jammed between the tub and frame (bra wires are famous for this) but usually you will also hear this. Be careful in case the object is something sharp.
If nothing is jammed in there you will have to open it up and find the cause.
Check the drum seals, rear and front supports, motor bearings etc.

2.The motor's centrifugal switch is not activating.
The motor has 2 centrifugal switches. One is for the heater but the other is for the motor windings. It switches out the start winding which if left in circuit will cause the motor to overheat. Often it is just a lot of lint/dust in the motor causing problems.
If there is heat with no air/motor rotation then it could be the switches are stuck in the activated state so that the motor's start winding is not in circuit.

3. The motor is on it's last legs and needs replacing. This is the most common fix.

I just replaced the motor and it still overheats. I then took the belt off the motor, set it to rinse as that was where it stopped in the load, it drained for a bit then the motor overheated without even begining the spin cycle. At this point it it seems the motor is getting power when its not needed and overheats. Anyone else have this problem. Just spect 100 on a motor and now it looks like another for a timer switch......
