Hard to be accurate without a model number, but possibly a blown thermal fuse. If the machine got hot enough to blow this fuse, you may also have an open thermostat. If replacing thermal fuse and/or thermostat, it's recommended that you go ahead and replace them all at the same time. Check the vent system for restriction or obstruction: this is one of the most common causes of overheating.
