Working on a friend's dryer.

Opened it up and it was PACKED with lint. Am completely disassembling to clean. Even had tree roots growing in the ducting like a drain pipe that needed a rotor-rooting!

Luckily a sock was stuck in the blower wheel otherwise I fear a house would have burned down - the lint has some burns in it. The wire insulation is melted off of the thermostat wires. Everything else looks OK.

I plan on
1. changing the thermostat, it looks burned.
2. Changing the thermistor because it is so close to the thermostat on this model.
3. New duct
4. New vent cap.
5. Finish cleaning of course.

Questions.
1. Am I able to solder or crimp and heat shrink the thermostat wires or do I have to replace the main harness?
2. If OK to repair the wires, what type of wire do I use?
3. OK to use light coat of grease on the drum rollers? It looks like axle grease on there now.
4. Any other suggestions?

THANK YOU!

You can crimp on new ends.

Same as what is there would be fine. I carry high temp oven wire and would use a piece of that, but that's just me. ;)

Some may say yes, some will so no that the grease will attract lint.
I would use my wd40 pen to put a light coating on the shaft, but again that's just the way I roll. ;)
