Default Loud thud on start-up
Model Number: PYE2000AYW   Brand: Maytag   Age: 5 - 10 years

Electric Maytag Performa dryer, about 7 or 8 years old has started making odd noises on start-up. A week ago it started making a loud thud when as the drum reached full speed.

Now, when you hit the start button, it makes a rattle like something is loose and spinning, then the drum starts turning, then it makes the loud thud then runs fine. (all of this takes about 2 seconds).

Other than these noises at start-up it runs fine, heats, drys, does everything like it should.

Any ideas what could be happening or about to break?

Thanks richappy, it turned out to be the blower wheel. The hub of the wheel was completely rounded out. Replaced it and the dryer runs much quieter now.
