replaced the coils on the dryer and it seems to be functioning fine. does the flame stay on during the whole drying proccess or does it turn off after it hits a certain temperature.

Just jam a cheap metal thermometer in the output ducting. The temerature should be around 145 degrees. Dryer will cycle on and off the flame due to the cycling thermostat.
