I have determined that I have a bad drum roller. Since this dryer uses two drum rollers is it necessary to change both drum rollers? The second drum roller appears fine and moves freely.

Here are your parts.
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDE9606AYW | AppliancePartsPros.com

No you do not have to replace both but is is recommended just to ensure you do not have to open it up again in 6 months to replace the other one.
Also check the roller shafts for wear.

While you have it open you may as well check the belt, idler wheel, front glides etc.
Also give the interior a good cleaning including the blower wheel and clean/check your vent system.
