Here are your parts
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDE7500AYQ | AppliancePartsPros.com Here is a service manual http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16023110.pdf Not quite sure what you are trying to do re: use a 3 prong or a 4 prong plug. To go from a 4 to a 3, the Neutral is connected to the terminal block and this is also connected to the frame by a ground strap. On a 4 wire the Neutral is connected to the center terminal (usually), the ground strap is removed and the earth ground wire (usually green or bare wire) is connected to the frame. Neutral = White L1 = Black L2 = Red Ground = Green or bare wire

Thank you so much!! I want it to be a 3 prong so I can hook it up to my house. But here is the thing. I think they tried to do it before I got it and I want to make sure I have the wires from the dryer going to the right ones on the cord. I know the whites are ground but do the 2 blues hook up to the black and the purple and black hook up to the red? They must have got it wrong before because the breaker in the machine was blown. So I am going to order a new one and wanted to make sure I had the wiring correct before plugging it in.

The way I read the wiring diagram.
The 2 BLUES are L2 so should be Red The BLACK & PURPLE are L1 should be Black That being said it should not make any difference. What is important is that the ground strap from White to the frame be installed. Otherwise if L1 or L2 should short to the frame, the frame becomes live, touch it and a ground (the water tap etc.) and you will get shocked. I would install the line cord and then check the prongs on it with a meter for resistance. Using the most sensitive setting. If you see 0 ohms then you still have a short.
