Model Number: GGQ8858HQ0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
We have a Whirlpool gas dryer (GGQ8858HQ0, Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II) that produces little heat in all temperature settings. No burn marks on Thermal Fuse, and both hi limit and operating thermostats on the side of chimany box and the back of the dryer near the fuse are clean as well. Duct and lint chute are clean. With little heat, we have to run the dryer very long cycles to get clothes damp dry.
In close examination from the back, seems there is no flame when the setting is at "Heavy". So initially, I thought it is the 5 position Switch, temperature (AP2947360). When I tried at "Medium" setting, seems the flame will only be there for a short while, though I set the timer at 70 minutes. So, I thought it might be related to Flame sensor (AP2910747)? Hi Jerry,
Sorry for the delay. The first thing I would do in such situation is replace the gas valve coils. - The part number for the coil kit is AP3094251 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL GGQ8858HQ0 | AppliancePartsPros.com Gene.

Gene, thanks for your help. I replaced the coils today. Now, the flame for Medium and Low setting works nicely. Previously, it wasn't useable.
Still, as soon as I turn to Heavy or Extra Low settings, the flame goes out, even when the dryer is cold. Come to think about it, Heavy setting never worked well when the dryer was new. Now that I have a little more experience, what will my next step be to make the dryer work for 2 other settings? Regards. Jerry |

Jerry,
Make sure the vent line is absolutely clean all the way to the outlet and it's made in accordance with the Installation instructions. Proper air flow is very important for dryer performance. Post the results. Gene.

Thanks for getting back, Gene. Took the advice from your separate posting, I had cleaned the vent line top to bottom. While the back was open, I vacummed/wiped the inside as well.
From the sound of it, you seem to suggest that maybe the other 2 settings have something to do with the installation. Is that right? I just read the link you sent. Seems all are in compliance with the instruction booklet. I had the dryer for about 6 years now. Anything on installation side I should look out for? Or any components might be causing problem at the Heavy and Extra Low settings? Regards. Jerry |

Jerry,
The reason I raised the installation issue is because you said that the problem with the Heavy setting was from the time the dryer was new. As of now I would replace the cycling thermostat (#9 on the diagram), and probably the temperature switch. Gene.
